Cancellations, no-shows and refunds
These are the plain rules for when plans change. They apply together with our Terms of service. Where the two differ about refunds or credits, this page applies.
For homeowners
Before you choose a contractor
Posting a project is free. You can close it at any time.
After you choose, before the contractor accepts
On direct payment, you can cancel your choice and pick another bid at no cost.
After the contractor accepts (direct payment)
Junta never charges you on direct payment. Any deposit or payment you agree with the contractor is between the two of you, so get it in writing. If the contractor cancels, stops responding or does not show up, or you change your mind, you can choose a different contractor from your project page. Your other bids come back, and we tell the contractor that you reopened the project and the reason you picked. A second change within 90 days pauses new direct-payment choices until we check in with you by email, within 1 business day.
Managed payment (paying through Junta)
- Before you fund, you can cancel your choice and choose another bid. The contractor can cancel only after the 72-hour funding window ends.
- After you fund and before work starts, you can cancel and get a full refund to your bank, including Junta's 3% service fee.
- After work starts, use the dispute process in the app. Any refund then depends on the outcome.
For contractors
Fees
Bidding is free. You pay Junta's $100 lead fee only after a homeowner picks you and you accept. Your first 3 wins are free, and there is no lead fee on managed jobs.
If the homeowner cancels or disappears before work starts
You can get a lead credit: your next lead fee is free. Email support@juntahomes.com within 14 days of accepting, and we check what happened before adding it. Lead fees are credited, not refunded in cash, unless we charged you by mistake.
If the homeowner chooses a different contractor
We tell you the reason they gave. Your lead fee is not refunded automatically. You can ask for a lead credit within 14 days of that notice, including if you disagree with the reason, and we check what happened before adding it.
When a credit is not given
There is no credit if the work went ahead, if you and the homeowner agreed to continue outside Junta, if you did not try to reach the homeowner, or for a second credit on the same project. We may review a pattern of credits between the same homeowner and contractor.
If you cannot do the job
Tell the homeowner and us as soon as you can. Your lead fee is not refunded or credited when you cancel.
For both
No-shows
If either of you misses an agreed visit or start date without notice, tell us. Repeated no-shows can lead to a warning, then suspension. We tell you before we act, and you can explain by email.
Paying outside Junta
Paying a contractor directly under the direct payment option is allowed. It is not allowed to use contact details you got through Junta to avoid the lead fee, to move an agreed managed payment outside Junta, or to contact a homeowner before Junta shares their details.
